What’s Tested
Prenatal Wellness Panel is a focused set of blood tests designed to give you and your healthcare provider a vital snapshot of your health before you even try to conceive. It’s about proactively identifying and addressing any underlying health factors that could influence your ability to get pregnant, maintain a healthy pregnancy, and ensure the well-being of your future baby.
The panel helps uncover potential issues like nutritional deficiencies, hormonal imbalances, or a lack of immunity to certain infections, which might otherwise go unnoticed but could pose risks during gestation. By providing this crucial information in advance, the tests empower you and your healthcare provider to address any concerns proactively. It’s about getting your body in the best possible shape for conception.
What’s being tested:
- Complete Blood Count (CBC): This test is like a basic health check for your blood. It looks at your red blood cells (which carry oxygen), white blood cells (your immune system’s defenders), and platelets (which help your blood clot). It can reveal if you have anemia (low red blood cells, which can cause fatigue), signs of infection, or issues with clotting.
- Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP): This panel assesses your body’s chemical balance and how well your organs are functioning. It checks things like your blood sugar (glucose), kidney and liver health, and electrolyte levels. This helps ensure your body’s internal systems are running smoothly before pregnancy.
- Folate (Folic Acid) Test: This measures the level of a vital B vitamin in your blood. Adequate folate is extremely important before and in early pregnancy to help prevent serious birth defects of the baby’s brain and spine (neural tube defects).
- Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH): This blood test checks your thyroid gland’s activity. Your thyroid hormones regulate your metabolism, and imbalances can affect your ability to conceive and the healthy development of your baby.
- HIV: Screens for transmission risk and maternal health.
- Syphilis: Detects treatable sexually transmitted infection.
- Vitamin D Test: This measures your body’s vitamin D levels. Vitamin D is important for bone health for both you and your developing baby, and many people have insufficient levels.
