What’s Tested
A metabolism blood test, usually called a comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP) or basic metabolic panel (BMP), is a routine blood analysis performed to assess your body’s overall chemical balance and organ function, focusing especially on liver and kidney health.
Who is it for:
– Individuals undergoing a routine health checkup.
– Anyone experiencing symptoms like unexplained fatigue, swelling, excessive thirst, or abnormal urination.
– Patients monitoring chronic conditions (such as diabetes or high blood pressure).
– People starting new medications that may impact the liver or kidneys.
What’s beeing tested:
Cortisol – a hormone produced by the adrenal glands that helps regulate your body’s response to stress, blood sugar, and metabolism. Abnormal cortisol levels can indicate disorders such as Cushing’s syndrome or Addison’s disease, affecting energy, immune response, and blood pressure.
Testosterone – a sex hormone primarily made in the testes in men and ovaries in women, with a small amount from adrenal glands. It supports sex drive, bone and muscle strength, and red blood cell production. Unusual testosterone levels can signal reproductive or endocrine disorders.
Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH) a hormone produced by the pituitary gland in the brain and controls how much thyroid hormone (T3 and T4) your thyroid produces. TSH levels help identify thyroid disorders: high TSH usually means hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid), while low TSH suggests hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid).
DHEA-S (Dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate) – a hormone made by the adrenal glands. It serves as a precursor to male and female sex hormones (androgens and estrogens). Its measurement helps evaluate adrenal function and can aid in diagnosing hormone-related disorders such as adrenal tumors or polycystic ovary syndrome.
Why is it good:
– Helps detect diseases like diabetes, kidney dysfunction, and liver inflammation before symptoms appear.
– Assists in diagnosing the cause of general symptoms (like fatigue) that may be due to metabolic or organ issues.
– Useful for tracking improvements or complications when treating chronic illnesses or adjusting medications.
– Early detection enables quicker intervention and better health outcomes.

What to expect after the test
