🏠 Collection Method: At-home or In-person

🧪 Sample Type: Urine

🔞 Age: 18+

⚠️ Preparation: You do not need to do anything special to prepare for the sample collection. Fast is not required for this test. Typically, a first-catch urine sample is required, meaning the first part of the urine stream should be collected (the first 20-30 milliliters). This is important because the initial part of the urine is more likely to contain the bacteria from the urethra.

📊 After the test: Results can take a few hours to a few days. Sent to you directly.

What’s Tested

STD (sexually transmitted disease) testing helps diagnose infections and manage sexual health. This test is crucial for sexual health because many infections show no symptoms. Early detection allows for prompt treatment, often curing the infection and preventing serious long-term complications like infertility or certain cancers.

STD testing involves the precise analysis of urine to detect the presence of pathogenic organisms or biomarkers indicative of sexually transmitted infections. The diagnostics use advanced methods to detect the presence of bacteria or viruses, even in cases without visible symptoms, enabling early intervention.

What’s being tested:

  • Chlamydia trachomatis: This test identifies the bacteria Chlamydia trachomatis, a common sexually transmitted infection (STI), typically using a urine sample or swab from infected areas.
  • Herpes Simplex 1, 2: These tests detect antibodies (in blood) or the virus’s genetic material (from a swab of a lesion) to diagnose exposure to or active infection with Herpes Simplex Virus types 1 (oral herpes) or 2 (genital herpes).
  • Mycoplasma genitalium: This test identifies the bacterium Mycoplasma genitalium, an emerging STI that can cause urethritis or cervicitis, usually from a urine sample or swab.
  • Mycoplasma hominis: This test identifies Mycoplasma hominis, a bacterium that can be part of normal flora but may also cause genitourinary infections, often using urine or swab samples.
  • Neisseria gonorrhoeae: This test detects the bacteria Neisseria gonorrhoeae, which causes the sexually transmitted infection gonorrhea, typically using urine or swab samples from potentially infected sites like the genitals, throat, or rectum.
  • Syphilis: Syphilis tests look for antibodies in the blood or, less commonly, the bacterium itself from a lesion, to diagnose infection with Treponema pallidum.
  • Treponema pallidum: This test specifically identifies the bacterium Treponema pallidum, the causative agent of syphilis, often through blood tests for specific antibodies or molecular tests on lesion samples.
  • Trichomonas vaginalis: This test identifies the Trichomonas vaginalis parasite, which causes the common sexually transmitted infection trichomoniasis, usually from  a urine sample.
  • Ureaplasma urealyticum: This test identifies Ureaplasma urealyticum, a bacterium often found as normal flora but which can also cause genitourinary infections, using samples like urine.

Physician Review included

What to expect after the test

After you provide your specimen, it generally takes few business days to process and release your test results. Your test results will be available in a clear and easy-to-read report. Independent physicians are available to discuss questions or concerns you may have regarding your results.
