What’s Tested
A Urinalysis / Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) test looks at the appearance, chemical makeup, and microscopic contents of urine to detect signs of infection, kidney disease, diabetes, liver problems, stones, or blood in the urinary tract. It is widely used in routine checkups, pre-surgery, pregnancy care, and whenever patients have symptoms like burning, frequency, flank pain, or visible blood, so it’s easy to position as a “quick total-body check” for hidden issues.
What’s being tested:
-
pH: Measures acidity/alkalinity; abnormal pH can be seen with stones, infections, or metabolic disorders.
-
Specific gravity: Reflects urine concentration and hydration status and helps assess kidney concentrating ability.
-
Protein: Protein in urine (proteinuria) is an early marker of kidney damage or systemic disease (e.g., diabetes, hypertension).
-
Glucose: Glucose in urine suggests uncontrolled diabetes or very high blood sugar levels.
-
Ketones: Appear with uncontrolled diabetes, starvation, or low‑carb diets and signal altered fat metabolism.
-
Blood (hemoglobin): Detects red cells or hemoglobin from infection, stones, trauma, tumors, or kidney disease, even when urine looks normal.
-
Bilirubin / urobilinogen: Abnormal results suggest liver disease or bile duct obstruction.
-
Leukocyte esterase: Enzyme marker of white blood cells in urine, supporting diagnosis of urinary tract infection.
-
Nitrite: Produced when certain bacteria convert nitrates; a positive result usually indicates bacterial UTI
Urinalysis / Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) test is a high‑value, low‑burden test that helps catch UTIs, kidney disease, diabetes, liver problems, and urinary tract cancers early, and it’s ideal for routine screening, chronic disease monitoring, and symptomatic patients. There is usually no fasting or special preparation required; patients simply provide a clean‑catch midstream urine sample following basic cleansing instructions, which makes the test easy to add on or bundle with blood work in virtually any setting.
